My name is Debbie O. and I have been a patient of Dr. Andre Tse since November, 2007. Approximately, three years ago I began having problems with short term memory, word finding, and problem solving. After visiting UNC, Duke, and Johns Hopkins, I was diagnosed with corticobasal degeneration which is a slow progressive degeneration of the portion of my brain that impact these skills. A side effect of this is "Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA)". PPA arises when parts of the brain that control language malfunction. The underlying diseases are called "degenerative" because they cannot be attributed to clear-cut causes such as head trauma, stroke, or cancer. In my case, we do not know what the cause of my disease is. Progressive difficulties in word-finding, word-comprehension, or spelling lead to a diagnosis of PPA.
Speech and occupational therapy have rapidly become a part of my life as I try to slow down this speeding train. The progression is variable and unfolds over many years. Word finding and word comprehension keep getting more difficult. My husband and I became involved with the Triangle Aphasia Project and attend Aphasia Group rehab each week. One day, another aphasia patient mentioned how acupuncture had helping him with his speech and reading. So, last November, I launched into a new venture - something I had never done before, and I did it knowing how scared I am of needles!! That venture - or should I say adventure - is acupuncture. And, oh what a difference it has made. Acupuncture, combined with more traditional means of rehab, has helped my energy level, my confidence, and my network of friends has noticed a positive difference in my speech.
I firmly believe in the wellness alternatives I have been utilizing at the Center for Chiropractic & Wellness. And, I am no longer afraid of needles!!~ Debbie O.
I would like to share my story with those that may be going thru a similar situation and are looking for alternatives in how to feel better and recover from a “chronic painful condition”.
I was diagnosed with “Myofacial Syndrome” after years of dealing with neck and back pain on a daily basis, an ongoing and debilitating condition that slowly stole my enjoyment of life, hobbies and strength; I under went numerous treatments and was prescribed an array of pain medications and antidepressants in order to manage the pain.
I was fortunate to met Andre Tse in the middle of my hopeless situation, he started to treat me using different techniques, acupuncture treatments and massage therapy, on a weekly basis, I started to see and feel the change, little by little I went from taking pain-killers daily to zero, if I must take something at this point is probably just a low dose /over the counter medication, no more prescription medications!
Now, I feel on the right path to my recovery, enjoying more life and work without suffering pain every day. Thank you to Andre and his caring philosophy, he is a skilled professional and a compassionate human being, anyone under his care will be blessed!
